Best VFX Courses

At Animaster Animation College, we impart training in visual special effects using the software Nuke, Aftereffects and Premier Pro. The course covers editing sound, creating abstract designs, background elements for news channels, compositing 3D on live action elements or vice versa, titling, motion graphics, motion tracking, Rotoscoping, special effects and color grading. These are taught keeping in mind the requirements from VFX media in the present scenario.

Career Courses Offered

Our students can take up a 3 year B. Sc in Visual Effects (all students who have completed their 12th/PUC are eligible) or a certificate in visual effects, the duration of which is 6 months. These are university courses. We also have in house certification courses such as AAAVGFX-PRO and AAAFX PRO which deal with visual effects. These do not have any eligibility criterion.

Software taught as part of the VFX course

NUKE is node-based digital compositing software produced and distributed by The Foundry, and used for film and television post-production.

Adobe After Effects is a digital motion graphics and compositing software published by Adobe Systems, used in the post-production process of filmmaking and television production.

Adobe Premiere Pro is a timeline-based video editing software application. It is part of the Adobe Creative Suite, a suite of graphic design, video editing and web development programs

What is Visual Effects?

Visual effects or VFX refers to the numerous processes through which imagery is created and modified outside of live action footage. These visual effects are then integrated with the footage so as to produce environments that look realistic. This is mainly done when such environments are difficult to create, may sometimes be dangerous to simulate or prove to be an expensive affair. Thanks to affordable animation and compositing software, these are now easily available to the film-maker to use extensively. These are generally created and included in the post-production stage of the movie. But thought has to be given to their content and design even during the pre-production and production stages of a movie or video.

Categories in Visual Effects

  • Miniature sets and models, animatronics
  • Paintings – traditional or digital, photographs which serve as background plates
  • Keying actors or models through blue screening and green screening.
  • Modeling, computer graphics lighting, texturing, rigging, animating, particle effects

The visual effects industry

43 of the top 50 films of all time are visual effects driven. Just like the best actor of the day ensured box office success in the past, it is the best visual effects used in a movie that makes or breaks a super hit. Movies like Life of Pi, Hugo and Avatar have only proved this fact. Movies, News and Television market is a huge one. It will ensure guaranteed jobs for visual effects’ artists for a long time to come.

Job opportunities for VFX artists

Graduates of Visual Effects degrees can find employment as special effects artist, texture artist, or lighting artists. VFX effects artists provide the required visual elements for live action or animation movies, TV commercials, video games etc. Texture artists work towards improving the overall look of the visual elements through the application of textures, colors, and so on for the various 3D models. Lighting artists create lighting rigs. They design how light sources fall on a scene’s visual element.

Students planning to apply for jobs need to develop a portfolio which consists of a demo reel showcasing the student’s skill set and knowledge in visual effects.
